October 26, 2018 Review of: Mateus Signature Douro

7.5/10 $9.95 Mateus Signature Douro (Portugal). Dark red colour. At first sip I was a little concerned, as it seemed a bit much. But after a few more sips and some time spent in the glass, it really morphed into a decent wine that’s pretty impressive for $10. Medium bodied and DRY. Tastes of plum and cherry with a dryness that lingers all the way to the end. Subtle bitterness but ultimately smooth with a flavour that fades fast. Although I feel this would best be enjoyed with food, for the low price, this wine brings a lot to the table and is an awesome buy. Those who are not very familiar with reds however may not enjoy or be able to appreciate this one as much.
